Focus on the Northern Innovation and Sustainability Precinct
Banyule City Council, the City of Darebin and other stakeholders are seeking government funding to develop a precinct structure plan for the Northern Innovation and Sustainability Precinct (NISP) that will facilitate future development, innovation and investment.

Advocacy for funding for key projects that will be the catalyst for economic growth and expansion of this important precinct is being led by the two Councils.

Home to world leading private enterprise and government facilities, the NISP includes La Trobe University, Austin Hospital, Warringal Private Hospital, Heidelberg West Business Park, Northland Shopping Centre, Olivia Newton John Cancer Centre, Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital and Mercy Health for Women.

The precinct supports almost 40,000 jobs and generates $9.5 billion in economic output per annum, accounting for 1.5 per cent of all jobs and 1.2 per cent of Greater Melbourne’s economic output. It has experienced remarkable growth over the last five years, achieving 12 per cent growth in jobs and contributing 10.2 per cent of economic growth.

With significant investment already underway, a masterplan will allow a planned approach to development.
A NISP Opportunities Statement identifies catalytic projects that will generate growth and enable the precinct to reach its full potential. The prospectus was launched in September.
