Edition 8: April 2025
Focus for 2025: Better transport, sustainability and vital health infrastructure

In 2025, the NCA will continue with strong advocacy for better transport connectivity, ensuring Melbourne’s north has the services and infrastructure it needs to thrive. Improving the Upfield rail line remains a top priority for us, with a focus on increased frequency, electrification beyond Upfield and better connections to key employment and education hubs.

In addition, we are pushing for an expansion of bus services across the region, including a new route that mirrors the future Suburban Rail Loop, providing much-needed east-west connectivity. Expanding opportunities for active transport – such as improved walking and cycling paths – is also a key focus, contributing to resident wellbeing and making it easier for people to move safely and efficiently throughout the region.

Another major priority for the NCA in 2025 is progressing the work outlined in the Community Electric Vehicle Transition Plan. With strong interest from both state and federal governments, the next phase will focus on securing investment, developing a realistic and actionable roadmap, and ensuring that local communities can transition smoothly to electric transport. Advocacy for funding will be critical in ensuring the success of this initiative, as will collaboration with key stakeholders to drive meaningful progress.
Healthcare infrastructure remains a pressing issue and across this year we will be ramping up advocacy for a new Outer North Hospital. As our population growth continues to place pressure on existing health services, planning for this new facility will be a priority. We will push for a firm commitment from government, ensuring that all residents in Melbourne’s north have access to high quality healthcare close to home.

With a federal election this year and a state election next year, 2025 will be a critical year for advocacy. We remain committed to ensuring that the region’s needs are front and centre in policy discussions, securing the investment and planning needed for a more connected, sustainable and liveable future.
