Upfield Rail announcement - A significant step forward for Melbourne’s north, but more work remains to be done.
The Northern Councils Alliance (NCA) welcomes the Victorian Government’s commitment to progress duplication of the Upfield Line between Gowrie and Upfield.
This investment recognises the growing transport challenges in Melbourne’s north and the need to improve rail capacity, reliability and access to opportunity.
While this is an important milestone, it must be viewed as the first stage of the broader Upfield to Wallan vision - delivering duplication, electrification, network extension and new stations to support existing and future communities across Melbourne's north.
The NCA also acknowledges an earlier commitment made by the Victorian Greens to support investment on the Upfield Line. This recognition reinforces the strategic importance of the project and the need for action beyond a single election cycle.
The NCA now calls on the Opposition to match this commitment and support the delivery of the Upfield to Wallan project. Communities across Melbourne's north deserve bipartisan support for infrastructure that is vital for the region's future.
