Councils in collaboration

Each newsletter, the NCA will focus on an example of how Councils collaborate with each other and with external stakeholders to benefit the community.

A partnership for Cloverton

Hume City Council, Mitchell Shire Council and City of Whittlesea have committed to a Regional Partnership that underpins how they will work together to ensure the success of the Cloverton Metropolitan Activity Centre.

Launched in March 2015, Cloverton is Victoria’s largest master-planned community. The precinct will be the primary employment and service centre for the growing suburbs of Mickleham, Kalkallo, Donnybrook, Beveridge and Wallan – estimated at 380,000 residents and 50,000 jobs when it is complete.

This is a key piece of infrastructure for Melbourne’s north. To ensure that its opportunities for success are maximised, the three Councils have signed a formal Memorandum of Understanding that outlines how

they will work together on the project.

At their first meeting in October, they formally endorsed the high-level vision and principles that underpin their approach to planning for the Cloverton MAC.

By working collaboratively from the start, Councils are hoping to avoid transport and infrastructure issues faced by major developments in the past.

The Councils will seek coordination and assistance from the Victorian Government in planning and

delivery of Cloverton.
